October 2011... the second half Halloween

Starting from the top... Getting ready for Trunk or Treat at the church. Me and the boys posing together and missing Dad who could not make it :(. The boys joined all the kids on the stage for a parade and got lost for a minute exiting the stage. Owen and I were upset but Caleb was just fine running around without us! We ran around outside to all the trunks in the parking lot TWICE! Then came inside for the cake walk which I was stressing out the entire time that only one of them would win. Finally Owen received the second to last cupcake they had and both boys devoured only the icing of course. Next we went over to the picture room where we had our picture taken together and also had our picture taken with our friends Amanda and Taylor. Now that i think about it we never received our pictures from the photographer! rude! But I did get those two cute pictures of Owen and Taylor together. The next halloween activity was to dress up for music class. That door the boys are in front of is Jen Lees their music teacher and that is all the class in their costumes by the stairs with Jen! Owen next to Luigi is from Owen's class lining up for the school parade! Caleb and I went to watch the parade and join the class for crafts. We ran into our friends Melissa, Hannah and Page who were at the parade to watch their Dad! All of this and we still had trick or treating with Dad the next weekend! We trick or treated the houses on our street and then drove to our friends neighborhood where we trick or treated with some friends we ran into and ended at another friends donut party! Very busy and I know i am leaving stuff out but that will have to do!

October.. the first half...playing outside and Owens 5TH!

October in Vegas is still warm enough to play outside in shorts and if your Owen and Caleb no shoes either. Owen turned 5 October 7th, he planed the entire party himself. He chose an airplane theme including a red airplane cake made by me ( i thought it was terrible, the kids loved it), painting airplanes, flying paper airplanes and a couple other airplane games. Owen is the sweetest boy ever. He tells me he loves me all the time.
Things about Owen

He always wears shorts and short sleeves unless it is literally freezing, about 45 and under or if I make him wear pants but I usually don't
He tries really hard to share with his little brother and he is super polite.
but
He loves to tease his brother but cries if he is teased (sensitive) and Caleb can dish it out!
He is has an opinion about his clothes and has a few favorite t shirts and gets very upset if they are all dirty and he has to wear something else.
His favorite church outfit is a white short sleeve shirt with a tie that matches Dads tie and shorts!
He only lets me style his hair if i tell him he will look like Dad.
He just recently switched from a peanut butter honey favorite sandwich to loving ham and cheese with a little ranch.
He loves his top bunk bed and freaks out if Caleb tries to climb up.
Almost everyday he comes home from school with a picture that says MOM and OWEN and has a little heart.
He LOVES angry birds and frisbee on the ipad.
He gets to ride the bus to school which he really enjoys, his bus drivers are Bruce and RiCADO not RiCARDO , he always corrects me.
He thinks he is being funny by banana peel on the floor hoping someone will slip on it!
He knows his way around Vegas very well, he is extremely good with directions and always makes sure I know where to turn!
He is my backseat driver... always tells me how to drive and to be carful when Im driving.
This year he finally went up with the primary to sing, he was always to nervous in the past, He even gave is very first talk in primary sharing time and did a very good job. (Last year he put his down and screamed in my lap when they called him up)
He has started being really sneaky and will lie if I catch him. But he is a terrible liar and always starts laughing and smiling.

Soccer!

Soccer season just ended for Owen. This is the first time he was interested and excited to play a team sport. Every time he scored a goal he would hold up his fingers and show us how many he had scored. He seems very competitive, I wonder where he got that from?

Swim lessons

Owen loved it! Both boys were little fishies this past summer. Caleb has no fear and would run and jump in without a life jacket thinking he can swim! Owen is getting to be really good. Its November and every time we pass the pool they ask when it will be open again! But when its 80 degrees nov 1st you kind of feel like swimming still!

Caleb loves choc choc milk! At Walmart I bought him one of those individual size chocolate milks and gave it to him with a straw when we got into the car. He chugged the entire thing and its pretty big, in the time it took me to drive across the street to Michaels. It probably took a minute to drive over there! Well, he told me his tummy was full, then he had to pee right away. We came out of the bathroom and about a minute later he projectile puked pure chocolate milk on the floor! Then again and one more time before I could pick him up and run him in the bathroom. (I also slipped and fell in the milk while holding him on the way to the bathroom!) As we stumbled in the bathroom I was trying to decide sink or stall and Caleb pointed to the sink and puked three more times! I washed him off, set him down and he said "all done Mama" "i OK". Then we told someone about the milk and finished shopping! Talk about a PUKE and RALLY! He is hilarious!

First Day of School

Owen seemed excited for the first day of school, mostly excited to ride the bus. I think he loves being around the other kids and thrives with the structure. He has grown up so much over the past year and loves talking about how big he is. He compares his height to everything and always wants to tell me how tall he is. After the first day we were having a snack at the table and he told me he no longer needs his booster and is giving it to "baby C".

This summer we took our semi-annual trip to Utah. The boys were there for five days while Jared and I took our first real vacation together without children to Puerto Viallarta. Caleb and Owen were treated like gold by Aunt Debbie, Uncle Lane and Nana. They went to the Zoo, the Movies, the pool amongst many other fun activities. Then one of the nights they spent with Grandma and the Cousins for a fun sleepover that Owen talked about for months after. When Jared and I returned we took the boys to Lagoon and had a blast as always.

The weekend after Easter our Church had a one night camp out. One night was perfect. That Easter bunny is so smart, bringing boy size sleeping bags and head lamps just in the nick of time before our camp. The boys had a blast and talked about camping nonstop for weeks after the trip.

Three easter egg hunts, one at church with a breakfast, one the bunny brought to our back yard and one I organized for play group. Owen had so much fun with his buddies Gavin and Keller. I was lucky enough to go on two vacations without husband or kids. I went to Atlanta and met my sister and my dad. We had fun attending my cousins wedding and visiting my grandparents property amongst other various wedding things and sight seeing. Then one weekend later I left again for a girls weekend with some wives I became friends with while Jared was in law school. Both trips were so fun and relaxing, that I really did not have time to take any pictures. While Jared was home with the kids he must have been working so hard that he did not have time to take pictures either. His parents came to town and visited one of the weekends and my mom and Doug stopped through town the other weekend. All I know is I need more Jen Vacations!

Caleb turned 2 Feb 11th. He tells me he is not a baby anymore. Technically that is true but he is still my baby.

He loves..... Elmo, torturing Owen, twirling and pulling my hair, wrestling, sucking his thumb, copying Owen, grabbing penny's tail or any part of penny, teasing penny, Fruit Snacks, pancakes, talking in sentences, taking baths, riding bikes, sitting on mom or dad's lap to eat dinner, smiling, laughing.

He Hates.... getting his diaper changed, healthy food, the doctor and thats all I can think of right now.

Snow Day! was awesome. Not too many snow days around here so we run outside and play in it before it melts!

Owen's pre school took a field trip to the Belagio Gardens Christmas display. The boys had a great time obsessing over the train. I forced Owen to look at the Christmas ornaments and other displays so I could get a picture. He was mad and pouty until we went back to the train!

We took this while in Utah for our Thanksgiving trip. We had not had a family pic for about 5 years! 4 new grandkids and a sister in law have been added since. It was great to spend time with everyone especially Jared's brother Adam who left for his year tour in Afghanistan just after our visit.

I am so happy Owen wanted to be a spider and not a Spiderman or some other man type costume. I had two cute cuddly creatures and nothing scary or grown up looking. I just want them to be my cute little boys forever.

On Friday night the boys and I had a fun at the trunk or treat and came away with tons of candy. Owen impatiently waited for the trunk or treat to begin, I tried to hold them off with some of the games and yummy scones offered but that was no match for wanting to get candy. Caleb soon realized how fun it was to hold out a plastic jack o lantern and have people put candy inside of it. He wanted to open every piece of candy as it was handed to him!

On Halloween night we had a great time handing out candy to the kids who came to trick or treat at our house. Penny barking, Caleb screaming and Owen running to the door every time the bell rang, it was fun. I took Owen to our neighborhood party early in the evening and then Jared took him down the street to a few houses in the neighborhood.

Too much candy and a lot of fun this Halloween weekend!

A pumpkin patch in Vegas is a place where you can purchase pumpkins for an outrageous price or take advantage of the fun rides and petting zoo. Owen and Jared climbed and slid down the giant slide, Owen LOVED it. Both boys bounced as long as we would let them in the bouncy house and Owen rode on a big swing ride. Caleb's favorite was the petting zoo and could not stop saying "animals, animals". Owen chased around some chickens and kept putting wood chips on one of the chickens back. Eventually one of the chickens turned around and pecked his hand! LOL!

Took the boys on a plane from Vegas to Portland, without Jared to help. I was really nervous about the flight, they both did great. I am proud of all of us. We visited our friends the Henderson's, minus the husbands who were fishing in Utah. We both have two boys, Owen and Alec are the same age, then Caleb 19mo. and Miles 8mo. Caleb desperately wanted to do everything the big boys did and he did everything he could to keep up. We had a great time catching up and keeping the boys entertained with various outings around Eugene. The day we flew in was Owens’s actual birthday, Meagan had party decorations and cupcakes waiting for Owen, it was nice. The pumpkin patch was by far my favorite and we picked out a cute little pumpkin to bring home on the plane with us. Most of the trip the boys were easily entertained just hanging out playing with toys at the house. We loved the cooler weather, I thought we would freeze but it was a breath of fresh air. Back home Owen began cursing the sun. He said he wanted to shoot it out of the sky, told it to go away numerous times and said quit burning my eyes sun! We walked out of the store and both boys put their heads down and closed their eyes. Caleb said owe eyes, eyes. Oh and yesterday, the sun came out and ruined our rain, according to Owen. I guess the boys both loved the extra cloud cover of the Northwest!

More Birthday!

I asked Owen... " Who do you want to come to your birthday party this year"? Owen replies, "my mom and my dad". I hope that is the answer I get every year. We had a small family party including Jared's parents who flew in from Utah for a weekend visit. All day we tried to do everything Owen wanted to do. Of course opening presents was number one the list, grilled cheese for breakfast, nuggets for lunch, and riding around on his first two wheeler "gear bike" he had been requesting for months, just to name a few. Grandma and Papa let Owen pick out his own birthday this year which ended up being this really awesome power tool set that sounds like real power tools! Who doesn't love the sound of power tools in the morning? :) Now Owen is four. How did that happen so fast?

First Week of School

Owen is back in preschool, on Tuesdays and Thursdays he goes to Mrs. Marci's. This year has been much smoother than last year when he cried everyday for a few weeks and refused to participate. He loves his "fishy" backpack I found last year at Bass Pro Shops for 3 dollars on clearance! (I wish I had bought more). The first day he laid on the couch and I left him hoping he would not stay in that spot the entire time. I was relieved to find out that Owen did decide to join in most activities with the class. However the first week or so he tried to convince his teacher to complete his projects and color for him.

Aunt Debbie and Uncle Lane Visit Us!

My sister and her husband come to visit us the most out of anyone and they are so awesome! They offered to watch our kids for a few days so that Jared and I could take a vacation without children! We spent several days hanging out together before Jared and I took off for our get away. We owe them big time and hope they start planning a vacation so we can watch little Evalyn.
While we were away a friend of mine sent me a text asking if my kids had been kidnapped, she spotted them at the park without me and Jared. I thought it was funny and nice to know I have friends looking out for us.

End of Summer Wrap Up!

Things we like to do in the heat of the summer.

Head up to Mt Charleston for at least 10 degrees cooler temperature. These pics are from a church function where we were treated to yummy food and some fun activities. We also ventured up to the mountain a couple times on our own for some hiking and picnics.

Of course our community pool which we love and spent most of our days cooling off in the water and playing on the slides. We are not looking forward to the pool closing after Labor day weekend.

Back yard sprinkler, always a good time. Owen likes to "make it rain" with the sprinkler. We have not seen much rain at all this summer. The last time it almost rained Owen was so excited to see dark rain clouds in the sky and excitedly went out side begging for it to rain. All day he talked about rain, " its going to rain today", " I hope it rains", "is it raining yet?". NO rain :(
So we just make our own.

For a few weeks here in Vegas it is too hot for the sprinklers or splash pads. So what is a mother to do when the pool is closed and you have TWO hot mad boys? Stick em in the tub and everything is better!

Another fun thing we did this summer is visit the Dairy with our play group. We watched a cute animal show, took a tour and ate free ice cream.

No Shrimp for You!

Just last week Caleb was screaming for the shrimp I was eating so I decided to let him try it. Within a matter of a few minutes maybe seconds his face started swelling up and hives began appearing all over his body! After some debating we decided to take him to the ER but by the time we got there the hives had completely disappeared and he was as happy as could be. Yes, it totally freaked us out but obviously he is fine and now banned from shell fish for a while.

This year Owen and Caleb had a blast at the annual bowling party Jared's firm has for the families. They both ate about a pound of french fries and could not get enough of bowling. Owen does a great job keeping track who's turn it is and doesn't mind bowling for you if you are not being attentive enough to realize its your turn. Caleb made friends with Phil, a coworker of Jared's who introduced Caleb to ranch dressing and how much more delicious and messy french fries are if you dip em into it.

Caleb's Mischief

What can I get into that I am not supposed to? That is the question Caleb asks himself whenever mom and or Owen is not looking! Trying to play with the mouse, opening doors to rooms he is not allowed in, closing his eyes so I cannot see him breaking into Owen's room, playing with Owen's train. Owen is getting better about sharing but both of them have a major problem with the word MINE!

Discovery Museum

The boys love the Children's discovery museum. This was the first time Caleb was out of the stroller! He loved every minute of it. His favorite part is the airplane, he sat in that airplane for 30 minutes! Caleb also enjoyed his new found freedom at a recent trip to Chucky Cheese. Owen really explored the car display and also loves the water table. It has been really fun watching the boys start to play and interact now that Caleb is not a baby anymore :(

Owen "working" at Jared's desk. We made cupcakes,brownies, and brought balloons to surprise Jared. A very exciting day for both boys. We shared the treats with the office and enjoyed having lunch with Dad. This year Jared decided to let Owen pick his birthday present. Owen thought Dad would really like a Buzz light year toy, we wrapped it up and Owen waited patiently for three days until Dad could open his present. Everyone has to share Buzz because he is "my dad's toy" says Owen.

We had a great time visiting with our families while in Utah. The most exiting day was our trip to Lagoon and Lagoona beach. Owen conquered his fear of Bulgy the Whale... ( I have a really cute picture of Owen screaming his head off, last year on bulgy the whale) I will find it and post it soon! We spent the rest of the day running around to all the rides with the cousins. Both of the youngest boys, Drew and Caleb, stayed behind with Grandma and Papa at their house. Caleb was well behaved for grandma and probably really happy he was not stuck in the stroller all day at Lagoon! As we were really happy not to be pushing him around all day!

June 10th, Dolphin Exhibit.

Took the boys to the Dolphin exhibit at the Mirage with some friends. It is always an adventure taking the kids downtown and through the casinos but well worth it, especially in this case. We had a great time and will most likely revisit the dolphins.

Mrs Katherine hosted a party at the park for all the kids on there last day of preschool. Owen had a blast playing in the water with his classmates. Then we had a pizza lunch and Mrs Katherine presented the kids with keepsake yearbooks she handmade for each of the them. It was very nice and we miss you so much Mrs Katherine!

Over Mother's Day weekend my dad, his wife, my sister, her husband, her baby, and my brother all came to visit us! It was a full house but a fun house and it was great to all be together which does not happen very often. Owen had an especially fun time building a "volcano" with grandad and convincing granddad to build and rebuild about a million sand castles he could stomp.

Owen's Preschool class had a program and lunch on the Thursday before Mothers Day. Owen said his part of the poem and even sang all the songs with his class. Although during most of the singing Owen was lying on the ground doing snow angels he was still singing! The kids filled out a questionnaire about their own mom and prepared a gift that they presented to their mom at the end of the program. It was really fun to see Owen and his class so excited about the things they made for their moms!

LONG story short.... Found an abandoned pug, brought pug home. Old pug met new pug, Caleb loves pugs/dogs as much as his mom. Owen ignores pugs. Could not keep new pug, sent her to pug rescue to be cared for an fixed up from abuse. Owen named pug penny. We had "old penny" and " new penny". We miss you new penny! Check out new penny here.

April 4th The Bunny visit!

Easter Sunday morning the bunny came to visit. Both boys were really excited, Owen collected all the eggs within his reach and I carried Caleb around while he grabbed all the eggs up higher up. Caleb noticed all the eggs hidden in the blinds before Owen did, it was really cute.

On Saturday morning we drove to St. George to meet Jared's sister Julie and her family. First we ate then spent the rest of the day digging, hiking, climbing and collecting rocks at snow canyon. We finished at a park where the boys wrestled and ran around like wild men. What else could five little boys want to do all day!

Owen loves to find Easter Eggs. We had our first easter egg hunt at a church breakfast activity, Owen gathered so many eggs, some people were wondering how a 3 year old boy had so many more eggs then many of the other kids. He just gets really excited and runs around as fast as he can. Breakfast was really good and there was fun games for the kids to play before the easter egg hunt started. Caleb had fun hanging out with his little girlfriend and crawling around in the grass.

This was our second easter egg hunt with a park group. He had so much fun, especially because I let him dress himself this day. Owen even shared ONE whole egg with Caleb.

1st and 2nd Dentist visit!

Owen had his first visit to the dentist at the end of March. Caleb stayed home and had fun with dad while I tried to make the Dentist visit fun and exciting for Owen. I let him take a pictures of me and then he let me take pictures of him, it was all fun and games till the dentist came in the room. After a difficult checkup we discovered a cavity!!!! So three weeks later Owen and I went back and this time we took no pictures. I am not sure how the dentist did it but he filled the cavity and cleaned an objecting, stubborn, oppositional little boys teeth! I think I am more traumatized than Owen!

Uncle Adam and Aunt Sara

Uncle Adam and Aunt Sara came to visit us and we had a great time hanging out! It was Sara's birthday so Owen and I decided to get her some gourmet cupcakes. Owen designed them especially for Sara except for one that he had made exclusively for himself. Patience does not come easily when a delicious Elmo cupcake is staring right at you and you have to let everyone sing happy birthday to Aunt Sara.

Water fall hike with Nana and Doug

Nana and Doug came to visit the week after Caleb's birthday. We went on a really fun hike in red rock canyon that leads to a waterfall. It was a blast and I highly recommend it to anyone, especially if you are looking for a kid friendly hike!

Jared's parents came to visit on Caleb's birthday weekend. The airplane birthday cake I made for Caleb did not turn out so I decided to buy a "nothing bundt cake" to share with the grandparents, then we would not have to eat it all ourselves. It was delish! We also took a trip to the monorail, aka the train and made a pit stop at the Bellagio to see the fountains. Not very many pictures were taken this time but Papa had the video camera to document everything so I am sure we will get to watch that to remember the weekend.

Yesterday Owen's preschool class learned about Dog's. Penny got to be the star of the show, Owen showed her off and told his class all about her. The kids got to ask Owen if they were allowed to pet his dog. The class only had two kids yesterday but they seemed to love having penny come visit and Owen loved walking her around on her leash.

Jared went ice fishing two weeks ago and brought some home for proof he was actually fishing. Owen got a kick out of watching him gut the fish. Caleb was having fun playing by Jared's feet, happy his dad was home.

A couple months ago Owen decided to jump in the bath with Caleb, I was a little concerned but Caleb loved it! The next time Caleb was around when Owen was taking a bath he started screaming his face off and I could not figure out what was wrong with him then I finally realized he just wanted to get in the bath! They both get sooooo mad when its time to get out, Owen would stay in for hours if I let him.

Waiting at the top of the stairs. I wanted Jared to run down first so he could capture Owen's face, I love to see the excitement in his expression. Caleb is just so happy as always, he wants to be just like Owen, It was a happy day.

12/23 Visit with Santa

Owen was not to happy to visit Santa, these pictures do not do his bad attitude justice. Caleb was doing just fine sitting on Santa's Lap until he looked over and saw his brother screaming and kicking trying to get away. Owen did however enjoy the winter wonderland setup at Bass Pro Shops, so I am sure next year I can trick him into going back to visit Santa!

Back in Utah, Uncle Adam(Jared's brother) gets married to now Aunt Sara!
We flew this time, Calebs first plane trip and the first plane trip for Owen that he realized we were on a plane.
The first picture... Caleb passed out the instant we put him in the car after the wedding.

Baking and building a cookie tree together was a lot of fun. I could not figure out why my tree was no where near as tall as when we made them growing up. Next time we will call Nana before we are finished building!

Santa Train too long to wait! 12/5

Santa Train was a 4 hour wait! I think it would have been fun... $16 for a 30 min train ride, Santa, hot chocolate and some elves squished on a train with a million other people but 4 hours was a bit too long and we were an hour away from home. Soooooo we rode this vintage train for free instead and Owen loved it. Next year I will buy the advanced tickets for Santa before they sell out!

The best part of Thanksgiving in Utah for Owen was getting to play in the snow! For me it was the delicious food! Fortunately I have many many things to be thankful for but mostly I am just thankful that I have these two happy healthy boys.

Doug came through vegas on his motorcycle trip and stayed with us a night. We all had a great time especially Owen and Penny. Come again anytime Doug!

Halloween was crazy busy for us. We carved pumpkins in the morning, lost track of time missed a carnival we were invited to then went to our neighbors pre trickk or treat bar b q where Owen Jumped in the bounce house for over an hour! I had to drag him home crying. Next our church party and trick or treat that we had be drag Owen out of bed for, he was so tired after the bounce house! He loved getting candy and devoured the donut on a string. He ignored the rules but got a kick out of watching the boy next him eating his donut with no hands. One of the pics shows Owen looking up at him smiling! Caleb just chilled out and was along for the ride! After that we headed to an after party where they were making more donuts! but homemade and delicious! Really busy but really fun.

We packed the boys up along with enough snacks and gear to entertain us while we waited in line to get the swine flu shots. According to news and friends experiences we were looking at at least 2 to 4 hours. To our surprise there was no line! I walked right in with the boys while Jared parked and about one minute later we all had our shots.

These pictures have nothing to do with the flu shot.

Balloons and Opening presents!

We were so busy playing at the park and eating cake that we forgot to open presents. We were reminded by Owen's adorable little friend Bella just before we left so we opened her gift and saved the rest till we got home. The last two standing at the party each got a balloon to play with, thankfully we tied them around their wrists because about a second later the rest of the balloons were blown away. Then on the way home Owen opened his window and before I could roll it back up his balloon was sucked away, ripped off of his arm. It was so sad, he bawled the entire way home. Fortunately he forgot once we started opening the gifts.

Owens Third Birthday!

Owen turned three! For me it was bitter sweet because my very first baby is growing up so fast. Owen loved it despite yelling the day before he wanted to "Stay home for my birthday".

We had his birthday at his favorite park just like we did last year. All of the kids played, sang, ate cake and seemed to have a fun time. We are so thankful to have so many great friends here to come and celebrate with us. For the Grandparents and anyone who wants to know... keep checking back for more pictures and a run down of the festivities. ( I will post them below this post).
